Cristina Vanegas is an architect whose work focuses on understanding how the configuration of buildings and urban environments influences how they function and are experienced. At Space Syntax, her works combines spatial analysis, design advice and strategic assessment, drawing on her architectural background and experience in the built environment.
Her work includes the appraisal of existing spatial conditions, analytical and design advice to inform proposals and performance forecasting to assess the potential impacts of future interventions. She works with clients and design teams to translate Space Syntax analysis into robust evidence that supports decision-making and helps evaluate design options.
She is also interested in how cities can better integrate green and blue infrastructure, accommodate creative and industrial activities and nurture a vibrant street life through the adaptive role of ground floors.
Alongside project work, Cristina contributes to improving analytical methods and internal processes, helping make workflows more efficient, consistent and robust. She has also been invited to deliver specialist training and knowledge-sharing sessions for external audiences and colleagues, sharing her experience of Space Syntax analysis and its application to architectural and urban challenges.
She holds an architecture degree from the University of Cuenca, Ecuador, a master’s degree from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, Spain and an MSc in Space Syntax: Architecture & Cities from UCL’s Bartlett School of Architecture in London. Before joining Space Syntax in 2019, she worked in residential and commercial practice and lectured at the University of Azuay in Ecuador.
