Alan Penn is an architect and founding director of Space Syntax. He is former Dean of The Bartlett Faculty of the Built Environment, University College London and is Professor of Architectural and Urban Computing at The Bartlett School of Architecture.

In 2019, Alan was appointed the Chief Scientific Adviser at the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG). In 2020, he was named as an advisor on the UK government’s Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (SAGE), in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Alan is Chair of the Board of Directors at Space Syntax.
